#20 Steven Montejano hits a grand slam for Grossmont's second win against Imperial Valley.

Grossmont's 6'0, 190 lb infielder, Steven Montejano, hits a grand slam during the Griffins' second game in a double header against Imperial Valley College. Montejano's grand slam came in the bottom of the first inning to pull the Griffins ahead from a 2-2 tie. He is a freshman from Lakeside, out of El Capitan high.
The top of the fifth found IVC leading 9-7, but by the bottom the Griffins took control of the game. The end of the fifth had a 18-11 score with the Griffins eventually beating IVC 25-15, and finishing the double header with two wins.
The first game of the day started at 3:00 p.m. The Griffins made an incredible come-back from a fifth inning 0-6 deficit. They were behind 0-6 at the top of the 5th until the bottom when Jayden Lombardo hit a sac fly and single rbi (1-6) to get Grossmont on the board.
In the bottom of the sixth, Darien Cossio singled to bring Dekota Segina home. Joshua Verdon scored next on a wild pitch, followed by Alexei Andranovich scoring on a defensive error. Terrence Simmons singled for one rbi, Lombardo scored one rbi on a double and Verdon singled for two rbi. The Griffins led the Arabs 8-6 by the end of the sixth.
During the bottom of the eighth, the Griffins solidified the win. Cossio doubled for another single rbi and Verdon filed out to sacrifice for the final run. Grossmont wins the first game against IVC 10-6.
Grossmont men's baseball plays again Saturday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m. verse Long Beach City.
