Athletic training is practiced by certified athletic trainers—health care professionals who work collaboratively with physicians to optimize the health, activity, and participation of athletes. Athletic trainers provide preventive services, emergency care, clinical evaluation, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation for injuries and medical conditions. Athletic training is recognized as an allied health care profession by the American Medical Association, Health Resources and Services Administration, and the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
