Griffin Baseball Nation Continues Tradition of Developing Student-Athletes for the Next Level
The 2026 season was another outstanding year for Griffin Baseball Nation, as the program once again proved its commitment to preparing student-athletes for success both on and off the field. Through the dedication of an exceptional coaching staff and an outstanding support team, 15 student-athletes earned the opportunity to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year institutions.
"Our mission has always been about more than wins and losses," said Head Coach Randy Abshier. "We are committed to helping our student-athletes grow as players, students, and people, while providing them every opportunity to achieve their goal of playing at the next level."
The program's success was evident in its scholarship placements across multiple levels of collegiate baseball:
NCAA Division I: 6 student-athletes
NCAA Division II: 5 student-athletes
NAIA: 4 student-athletes
Griffin Baseball Nation players will continue their careers at some of the nation's respected programs, including the University of Hawaii Monoa, the University of San Diego, Penn State University, Long Island University, the University of Arkansas at Monticello, California State University, Chico, and Point Loma Nazarene University, among others.
This achievement reflects the tireless work of the coaching staff, athletic trainers, academic support staff, and the entire Grossmont College community. Their commitment to player development ensures that student-athletes leave the program prepared to compete at the highest collegiate levels while excelling in the classroom.
The team's individual accomplishments were equally impressive. Five Griffin Baseball Nation players were recognized as Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) First Team All-Conference selections following their outstanding performances during the 2026 campaign:
Catcher: Rodger Owens
Designated Hitter: Anthony Thomas
Center Fielder: Justin Heffler
Left Fielder: Druw Frost
Left-Handed Pitcher: Destin Allen-Fox
These honors are a testament to the hard work, discipline, and commitment displayed by the players throughout the season, as well as the culture of excellence fostered within the Griffin Baseball program.
GO GRIFFINS!
