Robert Aguirre – Associate Head Coach
Robert Aguirre brings more than 15 years of coaching experience to the field, working with athletes at every level of the game, from youth baseball to Major League Baseball. Known for his passion for teaching and commitment to long-term athlete development, Coach Rob has established a strong reputation as a skilled instructor, mentor, and program builder.
An alumnus of Grossmont College, Coach Rob played for the Griffins during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. A versatile defender, he played multiple positions throughout his collegiate career, with second base serving as his primary position and a staple role in the lineup. Following two successful seasons at Grossmont, Rob earned a scholarship to San Diego Christian College, where he continued his playing career while completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Economics.
Coach Rob later returned to San Diego Christian College as a coach, spending two impactful seasons helping guide the program to new heights. During his tenure, the team set school records in consecutive seasons and earned its first-ever NAIA World Series appearance in 2013, marking a historic milestone for the program. His work with infielders and overall player development helped elevate the program to national recognition.
In 2015, Coach Rob joined the coaching staff at Grossmont College, serving as the infield and third base coach. During his time there, he was instrumental in developing numerous student-athletes who were drafted or advanced to four-year collegiate programs. His ability to combine detailed skill instruction with in-game strategy translated directly to player advancement and team success.
A defining highlight of his career came in 2017, when Coach Rob served as the third base coach during Grossmont College’s historic season that culminated in the program’s first-ever CCCAA State Baseball Championship and the first state title for a San Diego County program. That championship run showcased his strengths in preparation, in-game decision-making, and leadership under pressure.
In addition to his collegiate coaching accomplishments, Coach Rob brings over 10 years of scouting experience at both the amateur and professional levels. His background in talent evaluation provides athletes with a clear understanding of the recruiting and professional development process, and he has contributed to the development of both Major and Minor League players.
Beyond baseball, Coach Rob is a business owner with a strong foundation in weight training and strength and conditioning. He emphasizes a comprehensive approach to athlete development, focusing on physical preparation, mental toughness, discipline, and accountability. He takes great pride in mentoring young athletes and helping them grow not only as successful players, but as confident, well-rounded individuals.
Coach Rob is married to his wife, Kaitlynn, who also works in professional baseball with the San Diego Padres. Together, they are the proud parents of two sons, Kaidenn and Ryan, and remain deeply connected to the baseball community both professionally and personally.
