It was a great day for Grossmont football Saturday, November 2. The Griffins defeated the Orange Coast Pirates 27-18 for their first win of fall season.
Grossmont scored its first touchdown in the first period. #16 quarterback Joaquin Quintana-McKinney passed for 69 yards to #14 wide receiver Joseph Perez. #13 Jack Browning's kick was good, and the Griffins led 7-0.
In the second quarter, #10 Tanez Davis received a 44 yard pass for the Griffins' second touchdown. Again Browning scored the extra point and the Griffins continued the lead 14-3.
#1 Jarius Burnette got in on the action too; he scored in the fourth quarter with a 2 yard rush. Also in the fourth, #2 Mylik Steen with a 33 yard pass touchdown from #8 relief quarterback Sharif Harris-Legree. The Griffins won the game 27-18!
Steen has 2 touchdowns this season and has received over 450 yards. The 6'0 sophomore out of Castle Park High played for Grossmont during the 2017-18 season where he received over 700 yards and kicked returned 546, for a total of 1268 yards during the 2017-18 season. He continues to be a leader for Grossmont's team this fall.
Grossmont football plays again Saturday, November 9. The Griffins will take on the Saddleback Gauchos who remain undefeated 8-0. The game will be held at Grossmont College at 1:00 p.m.
