Bio

Colton Stone enters his first season as the Head Coach of the Grossmont College Men’s Volleyball program, bringing a diverse coaching background spanning NCAA Division I, high school, and elite club volleyball.

Stone joins Grossmont after serving as an Assistant Coach for the UC San Diego Women’s Volleyball program during the 2025 season, where he worked with Division I student-athletes in player development, scouting, match preparation, and practice planning. Prior to UC San Diego, he coached at several of California’s premier volleyball clubs, including Coast Volleyball Club, Wave Volleyball Club, Bay to Bay Volleyball Club, and C2 Attack Volleyball Club, helping develop athletes who advanced to collegiate volleyball at all levels.

At the high school level, Stone served as the Head Coach at Berkeley High School, where he led all aspects of the program, including player development, program culture, fundraising, budgeting, scheduling, travel coordination, and community engagement. Throughout his coaching career, he has built a reputation for developing technically sound players while creating competitive, high-character team environments.

As a player, Stone had an outstanding collegiate career at Purdue Fort Wayne as an opposite hitter. He was a three-time MIVA Academic All-Conference selection (2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19), earned MIVA Offensive Player of the Week honors in 2019, and was named to the 2019 MIVA All-Tournament Team.

Stone graduated as one of the program’s most accomplished servers, finishing with 102 career service aces, ranking ninth in Purdue Fort Wayne history. During his senior season in 2019, he started 24 matches, recorded multiple double-digit kill performances, and earned MIVA Offensive Player of the Week after back-to-back 15-kill performances at nationally ranked Stanford.

Over his four-year career, Stone appeared in 90 matches while developing into one of the conference’s most dynamic attackers. He led his team with 273 kills and 26 service aces in 2017, ranked among the MIVA leaders in aces per set in 2018, and consistently contributed as a six-rotation player with strong offensive production, serving pressure, defense, and blocking.

Stone’s coaching philosophy centers on building a championship culture through accountability, relentless competitiveness, and daily improvement. He is committed to developing student-athletes both on and off the court while establishing Grossmont College as one of California’s premier junior college men’s volleyball programs.
