Grossmont College Griffins Advance to PCAC Finals After Dominant Win Over Palomar
The Grossmont College Men's Water Polo team punched their ticket to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) Championship game with a commanding 15-10 semifinal win over the Palomar Comets. The Griffins came out strong with an aggressive press defense, shutting out the Comets 4-0 in the first quarter and setting the tone early.
Grossmont extended their lead to 5-1 at halftime before both teams found their rhythm offensively in a high-scoring third quarter, trading six goals apiece. The Griffins held firm, taking a 12-7 lead into the fourth and cruising to the 15-10 victory.
Sophomores Ryan Motta and Xylen Rotsart led the Griffin attack, each scoring three goals. Freshman Luke Matchin fueled the offense with six assists and five steals, while sophomore goalkeeper Lon Kun-Szabo anchored the defense with seven saves, including a critical five-meter penalty block in the first quarter.
With the win, Grossmont advances to the PCAC Finals for the second consecutive year and the seventh time in the last decade. The 2025 Griffins now set their sights on capturing the program's fourth PCAC title in five years and an incredible 30th conference championship overall.
Grossmont will face top-seeded Mesa College in the championship match at 12:45 p.m. at Southwestern College.
